FEAR – Reality or just an imbalanced perspective?

By Martin Probst, Learning & Development Whiz at Leading Chef Academy

Fear_EggI hope you took the time to set your goals for 2015 after our previous blog ‘Hit the ground running in 2015‘.

Once you have established clear objectives, then it’s time to take massive action towards it. Otherwise it will only be a dream that will never come true and lead to a sense of failure, frustration, excuses and many more negative emotions.

Over the last few weeks I had people telling me that they struggle to set goals as they wouldn’t know what their purpose and values are. As I worked with them in a short goal setting session, in all cases, it turned out that this is not true. They did know after all what their purpose and highest values are in life.

Every human being has highest values and are what they’re purposely dedicated to. But when they compare themselves to people and society on the outside they often cripple themselves with negative self-talk and start to inject other peoples values and expectations into their own life’s. This clouds their own clarity on what is really important to them and then they cheat on themselves by saying ”I don’t know my purpose and values’.

Ultimately it comes down to the fear (we all have in common) and what we do with it.

Ask yourself: If you knew that you could handle whatever life has to offer, what would you attempt to do? I bet you would do anything!

So what you need to do is identify which of the following fears emerge within you.

  1. Fear of failure, comparing yourself to somebody who has more money etc.
  2. Fear of not belonging to a family, culture etc.
  3. Fear of rejection as you don’t see yourself as equal to others
  4. Fear of not being smart enough, thinking that other people are more brilliant etc.
  5. Fear of not having the health and vitality to actually do what you said you would do
  6. Fear of being judged, perhaps by doing what you really want to do
  7. Fear of financial loss of stagnation, because you focus on somebody that has more wealth

Once you find out what fears you are facing, you can address them. “How” you ask?

Put your fears in perspective, believe me, things are not always as they seem.

And they are, so clear your fears by putting them in another perspective until they disappear and the purpose will come right to the surface with tears in your eyes as you will realise that you knew them all along!

Successful people are looking for challenges that they are inspired to solve. If you don’t go after challenges that inspire you, you keep attracting challenges that don’t.
